Chandrayaan 3 Updates: A Stepping Stone from Chandrayaan-2 Failure to Success

Chandrayaan 3 Updates:   In the wake of the Chandrayaan-3 spacecraft’s triumphant moon landing, Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) scientists are spotlighting the critical role Chandrayaan-2’s setback in 2019 played in shaping this achievement.

These scientists are providing a Chandrayaan-3 update that underscores the relentless effort invested over the past four years. They were determined to ensure that the mistakes made during Chandrayaan-2 were not repeated, reducing the risk of failure to a minimum.

Chandrayaan-2 Vs Chandrayaan 3 Updates:

ISRO Chairman S Somnath encapsulated this journey, stating, “Chandrayaan-2 was the work of many years, and Chandrayaan-3 of the last four years.
The learning from Chandrayaan-2’s unsuccessful soft-landing attempt has really helped us perfect the methodology, conduct numerous experiments and tests in the landing process, and it has paid dividends.”

Key figures from the Chandrayaan-2 mission, including project director P Veeramuthuvel, associate project director K Kalpana, and mission director M Srikanth, were instrumental in Chandrayaan-3’s success.

They attribute their achievement to an intensive mission review process, diligent rebuilding efforts, and unwavering dedication since the Chandrayaan-2 experience.

K Kalpana expressed, “We started rebuilding our spacecraft after the Chandrayaan-2 experience. It has been a case of breathing in and breathing out the Chandrayaan mission for the last four years for us. Starting from the reconfiguration, all the special tests and simulations we have done meticulously.”

Chandrayaan 3 Updates:     Chandrayaan-3 mission director M Srikanth summed it up, “We have been working for the last four years continuously on this mission alone. Now everything is good, everything has gone smoothly. It has been a textbook landing.”

M Sankaran, director of the UR Rao Space Center, responsible for the power, communication, and basic structures of the Chandrayaan-3 spacecraft, elaborated on the struggles faced in incorporating lessons from the 2019 failures.

He noted, “Today we have achieved what we set out to achieve in 2019. It was delayed for about four years, but we have done it.” He emphasized that the entire project team, not just the project director and associate director, had been wholly immersed in Chandrayaan-3 for the past four years.

In this Chandrayaan 3 updates, the dedication, resilience, and meticulous approach of ISRO scientists shine as they transformed a setback into a remarkable success story.
